Prof.
Dr. Arjen J. van Tunen got his Master of Science degree in 1986 at the Vrije
University in Amsterdam for Medical Biology. In 1991 he got his PhD. and worked
for Prof. Dr. J.N.M. Mol at the Department of Genetics on the Molecular genetics
of flavonoid biosynthesis in flowers, specifically the petunia. Between 1991 and
1995 he was group leader at CPRO (now PRI) in molecular genetics of floral organ
formation in flowers. Between 1995 and 1998 he was head of the department for
Cell Biology at PRI. He worked on the plant as a dactory for commercially
interesting components, Plant Biotechnology, flavors and fragrances, fructans
and flavonoids. In 1998 until 2001 he was Director of Research at PRI and from
2001 to 2004 Director of Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences at the
University of Amsterdam. He has been the CEO of Keygene N.V. since 2004.
Other functions he is currently active in are: Chairman for the Agro Food
Genomics Initiative (now NGI & CBSG), Vice-Chairman of BioPartner.
He is member
of the EU food Advisory Board (FW6), the Evaluation Committee STW, the IOP
Genomics PC, the Advisory Board WUR-PSG, the Egenis in the UK, and the HAN
Biotechnology Advisory Committee.
