Dr. Hamer is currently Managing Director at Burrill & Company, a San Francisco-based Life Science Merchant Bank. Dr. Hamer came to Burrill & Company in 2003. He founded and served as President/CEO of Arête Therapeutics Inc. a privately held drug-development company focusing on developing new therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases and inflammation. Dr. Hamer lead Arête Therapeutics Inc. through its start-up phase, securing a $16M Series A investment by a world class syndicate. Prior to joining Burrill & Company, Dr. Hamer served in various capacities for Paradigm Genetics Inc., now ICORIA Inc. recently acquired by Clinical Data Inc. Nasdaq: CLDA) including CSO and interim CEO. Dr. Hamer received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California, Davis in 1987, and held academic positions at Purdue University including Full Professor, from 1989-2000, and currently holds an honorary position as Adjunct Professor of Biological Sciences.
